Some Hints To Help You Lose Weight
Some dieting hints:
- try to eat smaller meals more often
- eliminate sugar, not only does it cause a blood sugar spike, but it always makes you hungry an hour later
- if at all possible, eliminate white bread, pasta, white potatoes; if you can't eliminate them from your diet, at least cut down (they have the same affect as sugar)
- drink 8 glasses of water
- keep your protein intake up
- avoid convenience/processed foods; they are full of ingredients put in to enhance shelf life and improve flavour; they have more calories than real food and are generally unsatisfying, leaving you to eat more, more often; try to buy base ingredients and combine the foods yourself
- remember to eat only when you are hungry; get into the habit of observing when you are satisfied and eating more than you need
- slow down when you eat to give yourself a chance to notice when you feel full; enjoy each mouthful of food
- increase your level of activity; do something every day
- include some strength training in your exercise habits
- always eat breakfast; it will get your metabolism going and many find that it reduces their appetite for the rest of the day and they are not so likely to overeat for lunch or dinner
- try using a smaller dinner plate; decide how much you're going to have, dish it up, and don't go back for more
- don't confuse low-fat with low calorie; low fat foods often have lots of calories and carbs
- remember, your stomach without food in it is the size of your fist; never eat portions of food larger than this
- eat plenty of vegetables; chose variety and cook them up in different ways
- ask for salad dressing on the side
- try brown bread and brown rice; after you've had it a few times, you'll learn to like it better than white
- substitute sweet potatoes for white potatoes (a lower GI index)
