Low Fat Diets
In the eighties and nineties, fat was named the culprit in why the western world had been gaining weight year on year. This lead to more and more foods, from salad dressings, to yoghurt to cakes and biscuits being produced with lower fat. However, the fat reduction hasn't caused a weight loss, in fact it's the opposite. In the nineties, the Americans collectively cut their intake of fat from 38 to 34 percent of their daily calories, and yet as an average, each person put on 8 pounds. One of the best know examples of a low-fat diet is the Rosemary Connolly hip and thigh diet.
